Booty Named LSWA Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Quarterback Josh Booty of LSU and free safety Kyries Hebert of Louisiana-Lafayette were chosen Tuesday as Louisiana Sports Writers Association college football players of the week.

The pair were chosen based on nominations from sports information directors at the football playing colleges in the state and then voted on by a panel of LSWA members from various parts of the state.

Booty won the Offensive Player of the Week award for his effort in LSU’s 30-28 win over Alabama Saturday afternoon in Tiger Stadium.

In leading LSU to its first win over Alabama in Baton Rouge since 1969, Booty completed 18-of-31 passes for 275 yards and a school-record tying 4 touchdowns without an interception. Trailing 21-14 early in the fourth quarter, Booty finished the game by completing 6-of-8 passes in the quarter for 123 yards and 2 TDs to lead LSU to 16 points over the final 12 minutes.

Booty, from Shreveport, was also named the SEC Player of the Week and he has now thrown 9 TD passes and just one interception in LSU’s last three games, all SEC wins.

Hebert, a junior from Eunice, helped lead the Cajuns to their first win of the season Saturday on the road at Louisiana-Monroe. He posted 10 tackles with seven solo stops, including two tackles for a loss of two yards.

Hebert also added a 22-yard interception return, his third of the season and the fourth of his career. It was the fourth straight game he posted double digit tackles.

Also nominated for the offensive award were Tech quarterback Luke McCown, McNeese tailback Aaron Pierce, the Southern duo of QB Terrence Levy and receiver Michael Hayes and Tulane signal caller Patrick Ramsey.

The other defensive nominees were tackle Chad Lavalais of LSU, McNeese free safety Arthur Goodly and Tulane defensive end Floyd Dorsey.
