Booty Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Josh Booty has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for offense, the league office announced on Monday.

Booty, a junior quarterback from Shreveport, completed 18 of 31 passes for 275 yards and a school-record tying four touchdowns in LSU’s 30-28 win over Alabama on Saturday. The win over Alabama was the first for LSU in Baton Rouge since 1969.

Booty has now thrown nine touchdowns compared to just one interception in LSU’s last three games, all of which were SEC wins.

Trailing 21-14 with just over 12 minutes to play on Saturday against Alabama, Booty finished the contest by connecting on 6-of-8 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns. LSU scored 16 points in the final 12 minutes of the game.

For the season, Booty has completed 123 of 233 passes for 1,766 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His 16 touchdowns are the fifth most in school history for a single-season.

Booty is the third LSU player, and the second Tiger quarterback, to earn SEC Player of the Week honors this season. Rohan Davey won the award after leading LSU to a 38-31 overtime win over Tennessee on Sept. 30 and LaBrandon Toefield got the honor after rushing for 119 yards in the Tigers’ 45-38 victory over Mississippi State two weeks ago.

Mississippi State’s Eugene Clinton was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bulldogs’ 35-17 win over Kentucky.
