ATHENS, Ga. — LSU soccer midfielder/defender Ashley Mitnick was named to the Second Team All-Southeastern Conference soccer squad at the pre-SEC Tournament banquet in Athens, Ga., on Wednesday evening. It marked the second consecutive year that the native of Lilburn, Ga., earned second team honors.
Mitnick, a sophomore, ranks second on the Tigers with 22 points and has registered a team-high eight assists. Her seven goals are tied for second on the team. Mitnick is the first Tiger to earn All-SEC honors in back-to-back years.
Florida led the league in honors with four first team members, including SEC Player of the Year Abby Wambach. Florida coach Becky Burleigh won SEC Coach of the Year honors, while Rhian Wilkinson of Tennessee won Freshman of the Year.
LSU opens play in the SEC Tournament on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. CT with a rematch against a Kentucky club that beat the Tigers 3-1 less than two weeks ago.
