Volleyball Faces Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The LSU volleyball team looks to snap a three-match losing skid on Sunday afternoon in Starkville, Miss., when it faces Mississippi State.

The Tigers are coming off a loss on Friday to Ole Miss in which they held a two-games-to-none lead but allowed the Rebels to battle back for a thrilling 10-15, 11-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-12 victory. The loss dropped LSU to 10-11 on the season.

The Bulldogs are fresh off a 15-5, 15-9, 9-15, 15-7 loss to defending Southeastern Conference Western Division champion Arkansas on Friday night. Mississippi State fell to 14-11 on the year with the loss.

The two teams have met once this year with LSU taking a 15-13, 15-6, 15-12 win in Baton Rouge, La. In the match, the Tigers recorded 10 team or individual statistical performances that ranked in the top three in school history, including five that ranked No. 1.

“We had to battle in the first match against State to come away with a win and I expect the same thing on Sunday,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “We haven’t been playing as well as we need to and this will be a good test for us to rebound.”

The win earlier this season marked the fourth consecutive win for LSU in the series, including the Tigers win in Starkville last season. Mississippi State last beat LSU in a home match in 1998.
