BATON ROUGE — After clinching a Southeastern Conference Tournament berth for the first time in two years, the LSU Tigers look to take on in-state rival Tulane for their last regular-season match at the LSU Soccer field on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The LSU marketing department will also rename the LSU Soccer field at this season finale.
“As usual, we are the underdogs here,” said head coach George Fotopoulos. ? “We have not beaten Tulane in three years.? In my opinion, Tulane is the best team in Louisiana right now.? We are a young team.? I am a little concerned about us.? We are tired and beat up after the SEC weekend.? This will be an emotional game for us because it is the seniors’ last home game.? I hope we can use that emotion to propel us to be competitive.”
Wednesday’s game will be televised on a tape delay basis on cable Channel 11 at 1 p.m. on Thursday and 7 p.m. on Friday. Fans can pick up free admission coupons to the game at any Baton Rouge area Winn-Dixie.
The Tigers will finish their season with the most wins in school history.? Their current record is 14-5.? Tulane comes into the match with the Tigers with a record of 8-8 for the season.
LSU has only beaten Tulane once in the teams’ four meetings together.? Last season, Tulane defeated the Tigers 3-0 in New Orleans. The Tigers are looking to finish off their regular season with a win against the Wave.
This season, the Tigers are 4-0 against Louisiana teams.
The Tigers are coming off a huge SEC weekend after clinching a Tournament berth with a win 1-0 win over Vanderbilt.? The win snapped a 19 game losing streak against the Eastern Division.
Tulane comes to the LSU Soccer Complex after dropping its last game on Sunday to Marquette 1-0.? The Green Wave are led by Megan Stack, who has eight goals and five assists for the season.
LSU travels next to Athens, Ga. for the SEC Tournament on Nov. 2-5.? The Tigers seeding will be determined following the completion of the entire SEC schedule.
