Soccer Takes on Vanderbilt in SEC Finale

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In the last regular season Southeastern Conference match of the season, the LSU Tiger soccer team travels to Nashville for a Sunday match against the Vanderbilt Commodores at noon.?

“I think we have a chance against Vanderbilt if we show up and be competitive,” said head coach George Fotopoulos.? “Our girls have been working hard and I think they can go up against a good team any day.”

LSU is 13-5 for the season and 4-4 in the SEC.? The Commodores are 8-7 for the season and 5-3 in the SEC.?

The Tigers are 0-4 all-time against the Commodores.? Vanderbilt last defeated LSU 5-0 in 1999 at the LSU Soccer Complex.

LSU has won three of its last four matches.? The Tigers swept SEC opponents Alabama and Auburn last weekend.? On Tuesday, LSU shutdown in-state opponent Nicholls state for its ninth shutout of the season.? Most recently, the Tigers dropped a close match 3-1 to Kentucky in Lexington.? Former track-star Somalia Lindsay scored the only Tiger goal against the Wildcats on a one-on-one showdown with the goalie.

The Tiger offense has been led this season by sophomores Kara Dean and Ashley Mitnick. ? Dean has 14 goals for the season, and Mitnick has seven goals and eight assists. ? The defense has been led by goalie Bonnie Otillio who has been in goal for seven of the nine shutouts this season.

The Commodores defeated Arkansas on Friday night 4-0 in Nashville.? The Tigers beat Arkansas 1-0 earlier this season.?

The Tigers return home for the last game of the regular season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against in-state rival Tulane.? LSU will honor its five seniors at its last home game.
