Soccer Opens Weekend Against East At Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The LSU soccer team faces the Kentucky Wildcats in a 6:30 p.m. CT match on Friday in Lexington at the UK Soccer Complex.

The Tigers enter the weekend with an overall record of 13-4 and 4-3 in the Southeastern Conference.? Kentucky is also 4-3 in the SEC and 11-4 overall.

“We have been practicing hard all week,” said head coach George Fotopoulos. ? “I think that we have a good chance to be competitive with this team. ? Our girls are coming off three straight wins, and I hope that the momentum carries over to this game.”

Kentucky leads the all-time series against the Tigers 4-0.? It was last season when Kentucky defeated the Tigers 6-1 in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers are riding a three game winning streak after sweeping the weekend against SEC opponents Alabama and Auburn and then shutting out in-state opponent Nicholls State. ?

The LSU defense led by sophomore goalie Bonnie Otillio has a school record of nine shutouts this season.? Otillio has been in goal for seven, with senior Bryna Warnock filling in for two.?

Sophomores Kara Dean and Ashley Mitnick lead the Tiger offense that has a total of 46 goals for the season.? Dean has 14 goals for the season, and Mitnick has seven goals and eight assists.?

Kentucky has lost its last two SEC games, one to Georgia and the other to Tennessee. ?

Following the game with the Wildcats, the Tigers travel to Vanderbilt on Sunday for a match at noon against the Commodores.?? LSU returns home for its last regular season game on Wednesday Oct. 25 at the LSU Soccer Complex.? The Tigers will honor the five senior players at their last home appearance.?
