THIBODAUX, La. — The LSU soccer team went outside of Southeastern Conference play to pick up its 13th win of the season, 4-0, over Nicholls State on Tuesday afternoon in Thibodaux, La.
“The starters did not play as much today,” said head coach George Fotopoulos. ? “I think this was a great team effort for the victory today.? Our reserves stepped up and did well. They had a great game.”
The Tigers move to 13-4 for the season while the Lady Colonels fall to 2-14.? LSU is now 4-0 against Louisiana teams this season.
Freshman Elizabeth Marschall got things started early in the third minute of play for the Tigers when she scored off a corner kick from Ashley Mitnick.? Marschall now has five goals for the season and Mitnick has eight assists.
The Tigers second goal was scored by Laura Klatter off a deflection from Jenny DeHay in the 23rd minute.
Kara Dean scored her 14th goal of the season on a solo effect in the 60th minute of the match.
Freshman Katie Jones netted her first goal of the season unassisted to finish off the scoring for the Tigers.
Goalies Bonnie Otillio and Bryna Warnock combined for their ninth shutout of the season. ? The Tigers took 17 shots to the Lady Colonels four.
LSU travels to Kentucky for a 6 p.m. match on Friday before heading to Vanderbilt on Sunday at noon.? The Tigers return home on Wednesday, Oct. 25, for the last home match of the season against Tulane at 7 p.m.
