BATON ROUGE — With a school record 12 wins under its belt, the LSU soccer team looks to add another victory to the tally with a match against Nicholls State in Thibodaux on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
“I am hoping we don’t look past Nicholls,” said head coach George Fotopoulos. “It is sometimes easy to overlook a team after a big weekend like we just had. A loss to Nicholls could seriously hurt us at this point in the season. We are going into this match with full intentions to play as hard as we did this weekend.”
The Tigers are coming off a weekend Southeastern Conference sweep of Alabama and Auburn to put them at 12-4 for the season and 4-3 in the SEC.
LSU and Nicholls have only seen each other in action once, which was in 1999 when the Tigers beat the Lady Colonels, 6-0.
Sophomores Bonnie Otillio, Kara Dean and Ashley Mitnick have stepped up to lead this young Tiger team for the season. Otillio has a school record of 6.5 shutouts for the season and 8.0 shutouts for her career in goal. Dean scored her 13th goal of the season to move to second place overall for most goals scored in a season. Mitnick has netted seven goals and leads the team with seven assists.
The Lady Colonels are 2-13 following a 2-0 loss to McNeese State last Wednesday.
The Tigers take to the road this weekend for two important SEC matches against Kentucky and Vanderbilt. LSU will play the Wildcats on Friday at 6 p.m. and Vanderbilt on Sunday at noon.
