BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team overcame a one-game deficit to Ole Miss to score a 4-15, 15-10, 15-10, 15-7 victory over the Rebels on Sunday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The win improves LSU to 9-8 on the year, including 4-3 in Southeastern Conference play. The Rebels dropped to 10-11 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
The Tigers had beaten Mississippi State 3-0 on Friday night to set the stage for the weekend sweep with the win over Ole Miss.
“We did a great job this weekend,” said Flory of her team’s first conference-weekend sweep since the final home weekend of 1999. “We didn’t come into Sunday’s match very prepared and we lost the first game. But we rallied and put things together. This is the most consistent two matches we have put together this season.”
Outside hitter Jennifer Hampton and middle blocker Meagan Davis led the way for the Tigers with 14 kills each, but it was the play of Meghan Bedford off the bench that sparked LSU to the win.
Fighting the flu, Bedford sat out game one before hitting for 13 kills and a .385 attack percentage in the final three games. She came up big in game four as she had eight kills on only 10 attempts.
“Meghan Bedford did a great job. She is our go-to player and she has proven that,” said Flory. “That gives us a lot more balance, where we don’t have to rely on one or two people.”
Hampton had a match-high 15 digs to go with her 14 kills to record her eighth double-double of the season, including her fourth in a row and fifth in the past six matches.
Davis also had a double-double on the match as she dig 11 balls to go with her 14 kills. She added four blocks as well.
At the net, Lauren Cuyler put up a wall for the second consecutive match as she recorded a career-high tying eight blocks, including two solo. She had set the career high on Friday with eight against Mississippi State.
“We have a lot of people stepping up at the right time. We are starting to get in a flow and getting comfortable with our line up,” said Flory.
LSU will take a break from conference play on Tuesday when it hosts New Orleans at 7 p.m.
