BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball team went through a three-hour plus workout Saturday on the opening day in which Division I basketball teams could go through full-squad workouts.

The Tigers, the defending Southeastern Conference Champions, are entering the fourth season under head coach John Brady and he put them through a practiced which emphasized fundamentals, some teaching aspects by the coaching staff and defense.

“We have a good effort for the first day,” said Brady, “But like any first day, some of the execution is not quite there. But that’s to be understood. We have a little teaching to do, learning the new offense.”

The Tigers were able to have all players dressed and on the floor for the practice, including Lamont Roland, who missed Media Day on Tuesday while undergoing oral surgery for impacted wisdom teeth.

“The effort was good, and I was pleased with their attitude and approach to the practice,” said Brady. “We’ve just got to get better and that’s what you practice four weeks for. We will certainly become more detail in what we are doing, feel more comfortable offensively and we’ll get to be where we need to be defensively. As long as the effort is there and the attention is there, this team can get to the point where it is maximizing the talent it has to play the best basketball it can play and that is what we are going to do.”
