BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team practiced for just over two hours on Wednesday as the Tigers continued to prepare for this weekend’s Southeastern Conference game against Kentucky.
The quarterback situation remained as it has all week with junior Josh Booty and freshman Matt Mauck taking a majority of the repetitions in team drills.
“Josh and Matt are the two healthiest quarterbacks heading into this game,” said LSU coach Nick Saban. “I can’t say until (Matt) plays and gets some experience that we think he is ready to play, but we are pleased with the progress he is making. The only way he is going to get ready to play is to go out and play some and if he needs to do that, we have no problems putting him in (the game).”
The Tiger defense has been focusing on stopping the aerial assault of Wildcat quarterback Jared Lorenzen, who leads the SEC with 317 yards passing a contest. Lorenzen is listed at 6-foot-4 and weighing 275 pounds.
“Physically, I have never seen a quarterback that is as imposing, relative to his size and strength as a player. He is accurate with the ball, gets rid of it quickly and has a strong arm,” said Saban. “His balance and body control in the pocket is really pretty good too. He is an impressive guy.”
The Tigers face Kentucky at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium on Saturday. Tickets are still available by calling the LSU ticket office at (225) 388-2184 or by visiting the LSU website at www.LSUsports.net.
