Soccer To Host Youth Clinic, Scrimmage English Team

Soccer Falls To Georgia in Close Match, 3-2

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team dropped a 3-2 match to the Georgia Bulldogs Friday night at the LSU Soccer Complex.

The Tigers are now 10-3 overall and 2-2 in the Southeastern Conference. Georgia improves to 7-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC.

“Georgia was a tough team tonight,” said head coach George Fotopoulos. “For us to keep the score at 3-2 is like a victory in a way. The talent and speed the Bulldogs had is what we hope to have at LSU soon.”

The Bulldogs struck fast in the third minute of the game with a header goal by Beth Culver off an assist from Jessica Winton.

LSU answered back in the fourth minute with a goal from Kara Dean. Ashley Mitnick passed a foul kick to Dean for the goal. The goal was Dean’s 11th of the season.

Culver struck again for the Bulldogs in the 36th minute with a goal that went in the left side of the net past LSU goalie Bonnie Otillio. Culver was assisted by Shannon Murray.

Stacy Hunt came up with Georgia’s third goal of the evening in the 51st minute of play off an assist from Kristy Bongiovanni.

Ashley Mitnick scored her sixth goal of the season for the second LSU goal in the 85th minute of play off a penalty kick.

LSU was outshot by Georgia 18-10. Otillio was in goal for the Tigers the entire game with 10 saves for the evening. Georgia goalie Nicole Williams had five saves.

The Tigers will take on Tennessee in a 2 p.m. SEC match on Sunday at the LSU Soccer Complex.
