Tigers Improve to 3-0 with 2-1 Win Over Red Raiders

Soccer Returns Home To Face Georgia

BATON ROUGE — After picking up its seventh shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory against Mississippi State last Sunday, the LSU soccer team returns home Friday for a 7 p.m. Southeastern Conference showdown against the Bulldogs of Georgia at the LSU Soccer Complex.

“I am excited about playing a team as good as Georgia,” said head coach George Fotopoulos. “I hope we can remain competitive with them and hopefully come out on top. Barring any bad weather, this will be a tough match for both teams. The Eastern Division is usually considered the best division in the SEC, so I hope that we will be competitive with them.”

The Tigers enter the weekend with an overall record of 10-2 and 2-1 in the SEC. The Bulldogs are 6-5-1 for the season and 1-1 in the SEC.

LSU looks for its first win in the third game of the series against Georgia. The Bulldogs last beat the Tigers 2-1 in 1998 in Athens.

LSU dropped its first SEC match after six straight wins last Friday night with a 2-1 loss to Ole Miss before defeating Mississippi State, 2-0, on Sunday.

Kara Dean leads the Tigers offensively with 10 goals for the season and 22 points. Dean has moved to third overall in single season scoring.

Defensively the Tigers are led by sophomore goalie Bonnie Otillio, who is holds LSU single-season record for shutouts with 5.5 and with career shutouts with 7.0.

Georgia defeated South Carolina 3-0 last Friday evening and lost to the defending SEC champion Florida Gators, 2-0, on Sunday.

The Bulldogs are led offensively by junior Amy Berbary with her seven goals.
