Road To the Western Division Begins Friday

BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team will have its first Southeastern Conference road match this Friday at 7 p.m. when the Tigers taks on Auburn on the plains.

LSU (5-6, 0-1 SEC) is coming off a sweep victory over Stephen F. Austin this past Sunday while Auburn (7-5, 0-2 SEC) has lost two straight, both in SEC road matches to Florida and Georgia.

“This is a big match for us in terms of getting a good start in the Western Division,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “Our goal is to be at the top of the West at the end of the year and this is where it begins for us.”

Leading LSU into the match is all-SEC middle blocker Meagan Davis, who leads the team in kills with 3.19 per game, attack percentage at .354 and blocks with 1.03 per game. Her .354 attack percentage is fifth in the league.

Along with Davis, outside hitter Jennifer Hampton will be crucial for the Tigers as she leads the team and ranks third in the SEC in digs with a 3.38 per game average. She is also second on the squad in kill with just under three per game.

Auburn has won eight of the last nine in the series, as well as seven straight at home, despite LSU holding a 16-10 overall advantage in the series.
