Soccer Defeats Loyola, Georgetown in KICKS Tournament

Soccer Improves to 7-1 With 3-0 Win Over Demons

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team picked up its fourth shutout of the year with a 3-0 win over the Northwestern State Demons on Friday night at the LSU Soccer Complex.

The Tigers move to 7-1 for the season, with the Demons falling to 5-6.

“I was very pleased tonight with our offense,” said head coach George Fotopoulos.? “I think we produced three very nice goals. Northwestern State was tough and I think they gave us a good game.”

“I was pleased with the team effort.? To rebound from many technical mistakes the first half and not give up any goals shows a lot of maturity on our end.? We still have a long season to go and Arkansas will be a tough match for us on Sunday. ? We are looking forward to the SEC match on Sunday.”

Sophomore Melissa Shelton scored LSU’s first goal of the evening to get the Tigers going. ? The goal came in the 26th minute of play off an assist from Kara Dean.

Freshman Elizabeth Marschall hit a shot from 30 yards out to net the second LSU goal in the 30th minute of the game.

Dean netted the Tigers’ last goal of the night in the 83rd minute.? She now has a team-leading eight goals for the season and is one goal away from tying the third leading single season scorer in LSU history.

Goalie Bonnie Otillio had a big night for the Tigers with her second shutout of the year. ? Otillio had four saves for the evening.? Demon goalie Tiffany Swingler came up with 11 saves for the night but allowed three Tiger goals.

The Tigers controlled offensively, outshooting the Demons 26-6.

LSU will open Southeastern Conference play at the LSU Soccer Complex on Sunday against Arkansas at 1 p.m.? The game will be televised on a tape-delay basis at 3 p.m. by Fox Sports Southwest on Channel 26.
