BATON ROUGE– The LSU soccer team will face in-state opponent Northwestern State Demons Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.
“I think that we are facing the best Louisiana school this Friday,” said head coach George Fotopoulos.? “I hope that we can be competitive and stay in the game to get a win Friday night. Northwestern is a great team, and we have to be up to the task.”
The Tigers enter the match with the Demons holding a record of 6-1 for the season, which is the best start in school history.? LSU defeated Alabama A&M, 10-1, last week.
Northwestern State faces the Tigers with a record of 5-5 for the season.? The Demons recently defeated Stephen F. Austin, 3-1, on Tuesday. The Demons have yet to win a road match in 2000 in four tries.
LSU is 1-0 all-time against Northwestern State, having faced the Demons last in 1998 where the Tigers won 2-0.
So far this season, LSU has faced only one other Louisiana school and hold a 1-0 record against in-state teams for 2000 after defeating Louisiana-Monroe 4-1 on Aug. 27.
LSU is led offensively by sophomore captain Kara Dean with seven goals this season.
The Demons follow the offensive lead of junior Britiany Cargill who has netted 12 goals in just 10 matches.
Following, the Tigers begin Southeastern Conference play on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Arkansas at the LSU Soccer Complex.? The game will be televised on a tape delay basis by Fox Sports Southwest and can be seen at 3 p.m. on Channel 26.
