Cross Country Set For Ragin’ Cajun Classic

BATON ROUGE — The LSU cross country team will continue the early portion of its season this Saturday at the Ragin’ Cajun Classic at Acadiana Park in Lafayette. The men will start with a four-mile run at 9 a.m. and the women will follow with a five-kilometer race at 9:30 a.m.

The Tigers are coming off a second place finish at the Crimson Classic at Alabama last weekend, but will rest a number of significant contributors in an effort to save them for the critical meets in the heart of the season.

“We’re going to rest a few of our top athletes on the men’s side,” said LSU coach Mark Elliott. “There are still a number of the men that will run this weekend because I feel like they still need another race. It’s a good field this weekend and we hope to keep progressing the way that we have so far.”

The Lady Tigers will run a full team after finishing 11th in last weekend’s Crimson Classic.

Competing in Lafayette this weekend will be a majority of the Louisiana schools, led by Tulane which currently sits second in the NCAA South Central Regional men’s poll.

The Tigers won the 1999 Ragin’ Cajun Classic, while the Lady Tigers finished second in a field that will be very similar to this weekend’s.

Following the Ragin’ Cajun Classic, LSU will remain home next weekend for its only home competition of the season, the LSU Invitational at Highland Road Park. The women will open with a 6k run at 8 a.m., while the men will follow with a five-mile run at 9 a.m.
