KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — In its first action of the 2000-01 season, the LSU men’s golf team put forth a strong opening day and stands in second place through two rounds of the Cleveland Golf Kiawah Island Intercollegiate golf tournament at the Osprey Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C., on Monday.
Led by Billy Dressler (69-75) and Garrett Prather (70-74), who each finished the day at even-par 144, the Tigers shot 6-over 582 in the two-round first day to trail only Tulsa, which shot 2-over 578 on the first day. Dressler and Prather are tied for seventh in the individual rankings, two strokes behind Baylor’s Worth Williams and Tulsa’s Billy Lowry who shot rounds of 2-under 142.
Mississippi State, which led after the first round, slipped to third with a 583 total. Tournament host the College of Charleston was in 10th position after round one but shot a 288 in the second to total a 588, good enough for a tie with Baylor for fourth.
LSU senior Alan Morgan is tied for 19th place at 3-over 147 (75-71), while Craig Taylor (80-71) and junior Chip Lee (77-74) are tied for 35th at 7-over 151.
The tournament continues tomorrow as the third round gets underway at Osprey Point. Here are the results from the first two rounds:
