Men’s Golf Travels to South Carolina to Open 2000-01

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The LSU mens golf team will open its 2000-01 season in the Cleveland Golf Kiawah Island Intercollegiate held at the par-72 Osprey Point Golf Club in Charleston, S.C., on Monday and Tuesday.

The 14-team field includes Southeastern Conference schools Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi State, as well as head coach Greg Jones’ alma mater, South Alabama.

Jones, entering his second year as head coach of the Tigers, was an All-American at South Alabama and was head coach of the Jaguars’ men’s golf program for six seasons before arriving in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers return a talented trio of seniors led by Alan Morgan. Morgan, a Lake Charles native, participated in 13 tournaments last season, posting 16 rounds of par or better including five Top-10 finishes. Morgan is joined by Billy Dressler and Craig Taylor. Four juniors, three sophomores and five freshmen completes the roster.

Morgan, Dressler, Taylor, along with sophomore Garrett Prather and junior Chip Lee are competing in round one of the tournament today.

The Tigers will host two tournaments this season in Baton Rouge. The first will be the Country Club of Louisiana
Intercollegiate held Oct. 30-31, and then the LSU Spring Invitational at the University Club March 5-6, 2001.
