BATON ROUGE – The LSU football team began preparations for the season’s SEC opener against Auburn Monday afternoon. The Tigers practiced for over two hours in shells at the LSU Practice Facility.
LSU began this afternoon’s practice with a brief full team walk through before moving into a short individual work out. The Tigers then practiced in seven-on-seven drills and followed with a full team workout.
Saturday evening’s game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, the fifth consecutive year that ESPN has picked up the LSU-Auburn game. The two teams have split their previous four meetings, ironically, with the home team losing each time during that stretch.
“We are going to play a really good team (in Auburn),” head coach Nick Saban said. “They have a good offensive line, a good quarterback (Ben Leard) and a great runner (Rudi Johnson) who has over 300 yards in only two games. He’s had more yards in the fourth quarter than in any other quarter this season.
“They also have a great wide-out in (Ronney) Daniels, and they have other good skills players. Their defense is one of the stingiest in the league right now, and they have an outstanding specialist. He is averaging almost 45 yards per punt. He is also the kicker and kicks off for them. So we are going to play a good football team that is in our league.”
The Tigers will next practice Tuesday afternoon. Kick off for Saturday evening’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the game are sold out.
