NEW ORLEANS — The LSU volleyball team rebounded from its Friday night loss to Tulane with a 15-2, 14-16, 15-9, 15-11, victory over in-state rival New Orleans on Saturday before falling to No. 15 Wisconsin in the evening, 15-10, 15-12, 15-3.
The Tigers are now 3-3 on the season after going 1-2 for the tournament.
In the morning match versus New Orleasn, LSU was led by outside hitter Jennifer Hampton, who set new team highs for the season with 18 kills, 16 digs and three service aces, and outside hitter Lauren Cuyler, who had 17 kills en route to a .412 attack percentage. Hampton also had a career high four blocks on the match. Middle blocker Rachel Vogt added a team high six blocks, including one solo.
The Tigers were able to hold New Orleans to 43 kills and a .056 attack percentage on the match despite the performance of 1999 Louisiana Player of the Year Jessica Purdue, who had 23 kills and a .294 attack percentage for the Privateers.
In the nightcap, LSU was able to hang with the nationally-ranked Badgers in the first two games before Wisconsin took control in game three. Sherisa Livingston paced the Badger attack, which hit .252 on the night, with 22 kills en route to a .582 attack percentage. She added three blocks, including one solo.
Meagan Davis led the Tigers, who hit .082, with eight kills in the match as no LSU player was able to reach double-digits in kills for the second time in three matches.
Davis and Hampton were each named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts on the weekend. It is the second straight week Davis has earned such honors as she was named to the Colorado PowerBar Invitational All-Tournament team last weekend.
The Tigers will be off until Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. when they host Arkansas State in the Tiger Classic. LSU will face Southeastern Louisiana and Texas Tech on Saturday in the classic.
