AUBURN, Ala — The LSU women’s golf team struggled to a 21-over round of 309 to drop from third to fifth after the second round here Saturday of the Auburn Tiger-Derby Invitational at the Auburn University Golf Club.
Auburn after shooting rounds of 297 and 293 has separated itself from the rest of the field to lead with a 14-over par 590. Vanderbilt is fourth at 33-over 609, followed by LSU at 36-over 612. It is seven strokes back to sixth place Alabama at 43-over 619.
Courtney Swaim of Auburn is the individual leader at even par 144 for 36 holes shooting a 1-over 73 to go with Friday’s 1-under 71. Celeste Troche of Auburn is second at two-over 146.
LSU’s Meredith Duncan followed Friday’s 74 with a four-over 76 and is in a group tied at 6-over 150 for fifth place. The Shreveport junior moved up one place from the first round. Redmond, Wash., senior Lesley McClurg is in a group tied for 18th after rounds of 76-78 for a 10-over 154.
Tina Howard, the junior from New Zealand, rebounded strongly after a non-counting round on Friday, shooting a 5-over 77. South Bend, Ind., senior Katy Harris (79) and Lindy Hitdlebaugh (78) both are tied for 23rd at 11-over par 155. Devon Day, the freshman from Greer, S. C., playing only as an individual in this tournament had the best LSU round of the day with a 2-over par 74.
