Second Half Goals Give Soccer 2-0 Win Over Hatters

DELAND, Fla. — Sophomore Kara Dean netted a goal in the second half to break a scoreless tie and propel the Tigers to a 2-0 victory over Stetson University on Thursday afternoon.

“I think that we played our best soccer of the season so far in this game,” said head coach George Fotopoulos.? “I am pleased with the girls’ effort and think that it was a well deserved win for us.”

Continuing with the best season start for LSU soccer, the Tigers are now 4-1. ? Through five games this season, the Tigers have matched last year’s win total, when LSU went 4-15-1.

Dean’s goal came in the 60th minute with an assist from Jenny DeHay after both teams had a scoreless first half.? Dean leads the Tigers with six goals for the season.

The second LSU goal was scored unassisted by freshman Rachel Cohen in the 67th minute of play.? The goal was Cohen’s second goal of her collegiate career.

The Tigers’ offense kept control of the game, out shooting the Hatters 20-3.? Goalie Bryna Warnock played the entire game for the Tigers, completing her first complete shutout of the season with one save.? Stetson goalie Genevieve Roy had nine saves for the afternoon.

LSU will face Embry-Riddle in a match Saturday evening at 3:00 p.m. CT before returning home to face Alabama A&M Friday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
