BATON ROUGE — The LSU football team practiced Monday for the first day of preparations of the Houston Cougars.? The Tigers practiced for nearly two and a half hours in shells at the LSU Practice Facility.

LSU began this afternoon’s practice with a brief “team correction” drill to work on basic game situations.? The Tigers then moved into seven-on-seven drills before moving the focus back to team oriented drills.

The Tigers will face a Houston team that handed a resounding 20-7 defeat a year ago, the Tigers’ eighth consecutive loss at the time.? The Cougars, like the Tigers, have a new coaching staff headed by head coach Dana Dimel.

“Houston has a lot of good skill players on offense and a coach that has been a head coach before and has put up some good numbers as a coach,” said LSU head coach Nick Saban.? “They are returning a good defense. Their offense will be a little more wide open in its style than it was last season in terms of how they throw the football. That is going to be a challenge to us. Their quarterback is Jason McKenley. He has started a lot of football games, about 30 in his career, and he played very well last week against Rice.”

The Tigers will meet again Tuesday afternoon to continue preparations for Saturday night’s game.? Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the newly renovated Tiger Stadium. ? Tickets are still available at the LSU Ticket Office or by calling (225) 388-2184. ? Tickets are also available on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net.
