Soccer Kicks Off 2000-01 Season vs. Troy State

Oklahoma St. Shuts Out Tigers, 2-0

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team picked up its first loss on Sunday when Oklahoma State defeated the Tigers 2-0 to close the LSU Invitational at the LSU Soccer Complex.

“I am so excited that we were able to stay with such a good team,”? said new head coach George Fotopoulos.? “For our team to be able to keep the score at 2-0 is a big improvement for us. Every game we will try to get a little bit better. ? Overall, we did the best we could at our level right now.”

The Tigers fall to 3-1 on the season with Oklahoma State at 2-2. LSU was able to stay with the Cowgirls early on, keeping them scoreless in the first half.? Sophomore goalie Bonnie Otillio had two saves for the Tigers in her 45 minutes of goal time. Oklahoma State outshot? LSU 7-5 in the first half.

Cowgirl Kim Graves scored the first goal in the 48th minute off a put back six yards out with an assist from Joanne Edwards. Oklahoma State’s second goal was on a shot in the 63rd minute from 35 yards out by Andi Lute.

The Tigers outshot the Cowgirls 16-13 but could not get one past goalkeeper Katharine Doud who had six saves for the afternoon. Freshman Robyn Desormeaux was in goal the second half and came up with two saves.

Ole Miss and Texas Tech played the early game today with the Rebels defeating the Red Raiders 1-0.

Ole Miss was crowned the tournament champions after posting a 2-0 record for the weekend.

The Tigers will take to the road for a match against Stetson on Thursday evening and Embry Riddle on Saturday.
