CLEVELAND — After three weeks of negotiations, LSU junior lefthander and second-round Major League Baseball draft pick Brian Tallet has signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians, the organization announced Tuesday.
Tallet received a $595,000 signing bonus. Other terms of the contract were not immediately released.
The Indians selected Tallet, 22, with Philadelphia’s second-round selection, the 55th overall in the 2000 first-year draft, as compensation for losing righthanded pitcher Mike Jackson via free agency.
According to the Indians, Tallet will report to the shortened-season Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the Class A New York-Penn League. The team is located in Niles, Ohio. The Scrappers have a 28-13 record in 2000.
