Duncan Set to Begin Play in Ireland

Duncan Finishes Fourth In Ireland

ULSTER, Ireland — LSU women’s golfer Meredith Duncan completed her four-day excursion over the Irish links of Castlerock Golf Club with a fourth place finish in the eighth World Student Golf Championships here Friday.

Duncan, the seventh ranked women’s amateur in the country, finished 7-over par for the event and alone in fourth place after shooting a 1-over par round on the par 75 layout. The All-American was one of two United States players in the top five as Sarah Sasse of Nebraska made a big move on the final day, shooting a course record six-under 69 to finish second at 2-over par.

It was Laura Moffat of Great Britain who went wire-to-wire to win the indivdiual competition at 4-under par as the British won the team championship by 13 strokes over the Americans, who finished in second, nine shots ahead of Spain.

Duncan now returns home to Shreveport where she will make final preparations for the United States Women’s Amateur competition which begins in Portland, Or., Aug. 7-12. That is expected to be her final competition of the summer before returning to Baton Rouge to begin her junior year of school at LSU.
