ULSTER, Ireland — LSU women’s golfer Meredith Duncan fired a six-over par round of 78 and stands in sixth place after the opening round of the eighth World Student Golf Championships Tuesday at the Castlerock Country Club.
Duncan, who hails from Shreveport, is in a group tied for sixth, seven shots out of the lead of Laura Moffat of Great Britain, who posted a one-under par 71. Sarah Sasse for the United States team from the University of Nebraska was the low American at three-over par 74.
Weather at the north coast seaside venue was good on the opening day, but the dry ground and burned earth added to the speed and difficulty of the course.
The second round of the 72-hole tournament is scheduled for Wednesday.
