ULSTER, Ireland — LSU All-America women’s golfer Meredith Duncan, is expected to tee off here Tuesday representing the United States in the first round of the eighth World University Golf Championships.
Duncan is part of United States squad of men and women which will take part in the 72-hole stroke-play event over the Castlerock Golf Club in Ireland. The University of Ulster is the host for the event which has been won by the United States on four occasions (1986, 1988, 1996 and 1998).
The Shreveport native completed her sophomore season at LSU by finishing seventh in the NCAA Division I Women’s Championships and this summer won the Western Amateur golf crown outside Chicago. Most recently she shot a 77 to qualify for the United States Women’s Amateur Tournament, which will be held in Portland, Ore., August 7-12.
Duncan, presently seventh in the GolfWeek women’s amateur rankings, is joined on the women’s team by Kristin Dufour of Texas, Sarah Sasse of Nebraska, Natalie Tucker of Indiana and Angie Yoon of Nevada-Reno. Diane Thomason of Iowa and Therese Hession of Ohio State will serve as the coaches.
The event runs through Friday.
