Former LSU Track Athletes Set for Olympic Trials

Thomas Finishes Ninth at Olympic Trials

SACRAMENTO — LSU All-American Marcus Thomas finished ninth in the long jump late Monday evening at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.

Thomas, who had finished sixth in the qualifying rounds, came up with a jump of 25 feet 11 inches. SEC-rival Melvin Lister of Arkansas won the event, earning a spot in the Sydney Games with a jump of 27-3 .

Thomas will also compete in the triple jump later this week with training partner and 1999 NCAA champion LeVar Anderson.

Former Tiger Ty Sevin finished third in the qualifying rounds of the men’s javelin with a throw of 255-10. Delyle Woods, a thrower for the Tigers in the mid-90s, did not advance, finishing 19th with a throw of 222-0.

The Olympic Trials take a two-day break now with action resuming on Thursday.
