BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s tennis players, Bruna Colosio and Ana Paula Mores, became the fifth and sixth All-America selections in Lady Tiger history Saturday.
Mores received All-America honors in doubles play, while Colosio was awarded for both her achievements in singles and doubles competition.
“Both Bruna and Ana had fantastic seasons this year,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “They are both very talented tennis players, and it definitely showed in their play this season. I’m extremely proud of them being named All-America, because they deserved it.”
Colosio and Mores led LSU to a 16-11 overall record, the program’s second Sweet 16 appearance of all time, and a final national ranking of No. 21.
As the fourth-ranked doubles team in the nation, Colosio and Mores were chosen as All-America after advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships and finishing the 2000 season with a final record of 24-8.
Mores, a senior from Londrina, Brazil, and Colosio, a sophomore from Cascaval, Brazil, accumulated a 35-12 career record as a doubles team in only two season’s as a pair. They finished this season with a 14-4 mark in dual matches, and a 12-3 record versus top 50 opponents.
“They were by far one of the best doubles teams that I have ever coached,” Minnis said. “Their individual styles gelled perfectly with each other, and that made it tough for the opposition to win.”
Colosio also received All-America honors in singles play. She ended the season as the ninth-ranked player in the nation, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship tournament.
Colosio, only a sophomore, finished with an impressive 38-9 overall record, while maintaining a 22-3 mark in dual matches. After two seasons as a Lady Tiger, she has already picked up 53 wins with only 15 losses.
“Ana was definitely one of the best tennis players of LSU’s history,” said Minnis. “We’re definitely going to miss her, but we are returning are other five starters next season, and with Bruna anchoring our lineup, I am still very optimistic.”
Four LSU women’s tennis players were All-America selections prior to this season. They were Kay McDaniel (1978), Ebie Taylor (1978), Suzana Rodrigues (1994 and 1997), and Laura Olave (1997).
