ATHENS, Ga. — Michal Chmela and Dan Kiernan advanced to the second round of the NCAA men’s tennis doubles tournament on Thursday.
The Tigers duo, seeded No. 5-8 in the draw, beat Daniel Andersson and Frank Moser a 6-2, 6-4. Andersson and Moser are the No. 1 doubles team for national runner-up Virginia Commonwealth.
“When Michal and Dan are playing as well as they can play, they have the ability to beat anyone in the country in doubles,” said LSU coach Jeff Brown. “They know what they have to do and today they came out and took care of business.”
Chmela and Kiernan have already earned all-America honors due to their top eight seeding.
Mississippi State’s Marco Baron and Charles Sevigny await in the second round. Baron and Sevigny beat Chmela and Kiernan earlier in the year in a 5-2 LSU victory.
