MALIBU, Calif. — Bruna Colosio defeated Lori Grey in the third round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Individual Championship, 6-4, 6-3, however, she was upset by unseeded Katarina Malec in the quarterfinal Wednesday in Malibu.
Colosio, ranked 11th nationally, lost to UNLV”s Malec, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Malec upset sixth-seeded Alison Bradshaw of Arizona State, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the third round.
Colosio became the second Lady Tiger in school history to advance to the NCAA’s quarterfinal. The only Lady Tiger to advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships was Suzana Rodrigues in 1994. She lost to Ole Miss’ PalomavCollantes, 6-3, 6-3.
Only a sophomore, Colosio was making her second appearance in the NCAA Individual Championships. She lost in the first round in 1999 to Tulsa’s Anoushka Van Exel, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
