BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s tennis player Michal Chmela was named the GTE Academic All-District second team for all men’s spring sports on Monday.
In the classroom Chmela, a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member, is a senior and has a 3.47 grade-point average in Marketing.
During his tennis career, Chmela has been a singles all-American twice and a doubles all-American once. At one point, he was the No. 1 ranked singles player in the nation and was part ofthe No. 1 ranked doubles team as well.
In both his sophomore and junior seasons, he helped LSU to the SEC Championship, the SEC Tournament Championship and the Final Four.
This year, Chmela led LSU to the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament while being ranked No. 23 in the country in singles and No. 9 in doubles. He will be competing in the individual portion of the NCAA Tournament later this week in both singles and doubles.
