BATON ROUGE — LSU’s women’s tennis players, Ana Paula Mores and Bruna Colosio, moved up from the 11th-ranked doubles position to the third-ranked spot Wednesday as the WingspanBank.com Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Rankings were released.
“Bruna and Ana have done a great job in doubles together this season,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “They are each very talented players by themselves, but when you put them together in doubles play they are even harder to beat.”
Colosio and Mores have a 21-7 overall record this season and are the second-highest ranked doubles team to ever play at LSU. In 1997, the Lady Tigers’ combination of Suzana Rodriguez and Laura Olave achieved the nation’s No. 2 ranking.
Both Colosio and Mores continued to improve in the singles rankings as well. Colosio, who has a 32-8 overall record this season, moved up one spot to the No. 9 position.
Mores improved 10 spots by jumping up from being tied for the No. 67 position to the 57th-ranked designation. Mores has an impressive 31-8 overall record this season.
The LSU women’s tennis team is ranked 30th in the nation this week after upsetting the Arkansas Razorbacks, 5-2, in the first-round of the SEC Tournament.
LSU has a 14-10 overall record with victories over 10 nationally-ranked teams. Twenty of the Lady Tigers’ 24 matches this season have been against nationally-ranked programs.
Last week in the Southeastern Conference Championship, LSU cemented its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance with a resounding 5-2 victory over 28th-ranked Arkansas. In the second-round, the Lady Tigers were defeated by fifth-ranked Florida, 5-1.
The LSU Lady Tigers will next be in action May 13, at the NCAA Regional Championships. The NCAA will decide where the teams will be sent for the regionals on March 4.
