BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU catcher Brad Cresse was named Monday as one of the Collegiate Baseball magazine National Players of the Week.
Cresse, a senior from Seal Beach, Calif., hit four homers in five games last week while collecting 17 RBI and scoring 10 runs. He produced a career-best eight RBI in LSU’s 21-6 win over Tulane, as he launched two three-run homers and belted a two-run double.
On the year, Cresse is hitting .441 (79-for-179) with 22 homers, 80 RBI and an .888 slugging percentage.
Monday’s honor marked the second time this season Cresse has received National Player of the Week recognition. He also earned National Player of the Week honors on two occasions in 1998.
Cresse is in second place on the all-time Southeastern Conference home run list with 70. He is just 10 shy of tying career home run leader Eddy Furniss, who hit 80 homers for LSU from 1995-98.
