Colosio, Mores Named to SEC Second Team

OXFORD, Miss. — LSU women’s tennis players Bruna Colosio and Ana Paula Mores were each named to the All-Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Second Team, the league announced Thursday.

Colosio, who climbed all the way to a No. 10 national ranking in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Top 100, amassed a 31-8 record this season through one round of play at the SEC Tournament.

Mores, a senior from Londrina, Brazil, picked up her 95th career victory Thursday in a three-set victory over Arkansas’ Andrea Ho. She has posted a 31-7 record this season in No. 2 singles position for the Lady Tigers.

Mores currently is tied for ninth in LSU history in career wins and has a chance to move into seventh place with postseason success.

Mores and Colosio are the third Lady Tiger duo to score more than 30 wins apiece in a single season and the first since 1984-85 when De Ann and Dana De Watlington won 42 and 38, respectively.

The All-SEC First Team included Georgia’s Aarthi Venkatesan, Esther Knox, Anne Nguyen and Marissa Catlin, Ole Miss’ Mariana Eberle and Florida’s Traci Green. The three doubles teams were Georgia’s Marissa Catlin/Lori Grey, Tennessee’s Candy Reid/Agnes Wiski and Florida’s Baili Camino/Stephanie Hazlett.

The first team is chosen by position in a team’s lineup while the second team is chosen at large.

Joining Colosio and Mores on the second team were Florida’s Stephanie Hazlett and Whitney Laiho, Ole Miss’ Ivona Mihailova, Tennessee’s Crystal Cleveland, Vanderbilt’s Jenny Miller, along with the doubles teams of Whitney Laiho/Jessica Lehnhoff of Florida, Esther Knox/Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia, and Vilmarie Castellvi/Alison Ojeda of Tennessee.

Vanderbilt’s Geoff Macdonald was named SEC Coach of the Year. Georgia’s Aarthi Ventakesan was named SEC Player of the Year. Georgia’s Lori Grey was named SEC Freshman of the Year and Tennessee’s Alison Ojeda was given the SEC Sportsmanship Award.
