Men’s Golf Heads to SEC Championships

FLORENCE, Ala. — The LSU men’s golf team wraps up its regular season here this weekend when it takes part in the Southeastern Conference Championships.

The event will be held at the par-72, 7,035 yard Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club, designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones.

Joining LSU will be Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.

Head coach Greg Jones’ roster for the Championships will be Alan Morgan, who leads the team and ranks 12th in the SEC with a 72.8 stroke average, Jeremy Wilkinson (73.2), Craig Taylor (73.6), and both John (75.1) and Jason Humphries (75.3).

“All the players are real excited,” Jones said. “Jason Humphries has qualified for the tournament. He’s been playing real well lately, and that’s given a mental boost to our team.”

“We want to win the tournament, and if we get it going, we know we are capable of doing just that.”

Morgan and Wilkinson have consistently been in the hunt for almost every individual tournament title LSU has entered this year.

Morgan has four top-10 finishes to his credit, as well as two top fives. Wilkinson had five top-20 finishes, his highest finish being a tie for second one month ago at the Alabama Spring Invitational. Both golfers look to finish the season up strong.

“It’s a big weekend for Jeremy and Alan, as they are playing for postseason awards because of the great years they’ve had this year.” said Jones.

The tournament will be played in 54 hole format, with 18 holes being played on Friday, Saturday, and the final 18 coming on Sunday, followed by the awards ceremony.
