Colosio Moves Into Nation’s Top 10

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s sophomore women’s tennis player, Bruna Colosio, broke into the upper echelon of collegiate singles players Wednesday, as she was ranked 10th in the nation in the latest WingspanBank.com Tennis Rankings.

“Bruna is an extremely talented athlete and an outstanding tennis player,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “She has had a breakout season this year, and it is a great honor for her to be ranked among the top 10 players in the nation.”

Colosio, who was previously ranked 11th in the nation, is in the midst of a 12-match winning streak. She hasn’t lost a singles match since the Lady Tigers fell to fourth-ranked Florida, 7-2, on February 26. Colosio was defeated by the Gators’ 11th-ranked Whitney Laiho, 6-7(7), 6-0, 6-1.

The Lady Tigers have two singles players with at least 30 wins this season. Colosio’s overall record is 31-6, while senior Ana Paula Mores is only one win behind with an overall record of 30-6.

Mores moved up two spots in the rankings Wednesday, as she improved from being the 68th-ranked singles player in the nation to being tied for the No. 66 spot.

Mores will look to win her 11th-straight match this Saturday as LSU will host the 15th-ranked Ole Miss Lady Rebels. Saturday’s match will be Mores’ final home match of her illustrious fouryear career as a Lady Tiger.

As a team, LSU also improved its position in the Wingspan.com Rankings. The Lady Tigers jumped up five spots in this week’s poll, from No. 39 in the nation to No. 34.

“It’s good to see that we moved up in the rankings a little bit,” Minnis said. “But there’s only one week remaining in the regular season, and we would like to pick up a big win versus Ole Miss to solidify our spot in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth-straight season.”

The 34th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers will next be in action this Saturday as they host the 15th-ranked Ole Miss Lady Rebels in their final home match of the season. The match will begin at 1 p.m. in the “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
