AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU women’s tennis team will complete its two-match road trip Sunday with a Southeastern Conference contest versus the Auburn Lady Tigers.
“This is another big match for our team,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “So far this season we have been able to beat all of the teams that we were supposed to beat, but this Auburn team is very talented even though they aren’t ranked as high as we are.”
LSU will enter Sunday’s match with a 12-8 overall record and a 2-7 mark in conference play. Auburn has a 6-13 overall record this season and are 1-7 versus Southeastern Conference opponents.
The LSU Lady Tigers have dropped their previous three SEC matches on the road. LSU lost to 20th-ranked Tennessee (5-4), Arkansas (5-4), and 11th-ranked Vanderbilt (6-3) in their last three road matches.
“We’re playing good tennis on the road,” Minnis said. “But we are just having a difficult time closing out matches against the tougher teams in our conference. Hopefully we will be able to play solid tennis tomorrow and be able to pick up a big win.”
The Auburn Lady Tigers enter the match in the midst of a two-match losing streak. Auburn fell to 12th-ranked South Alabama (5-2) and 35th-ranked Arkansas (7-2) in the Lady Tigers’ last two matches.
LSU leads the all-time series between the two schools 15-7, but last season Auburn upset the Lady Tigers, 5-4, in Baton Rouge. LSU had won the previous three matches versus Auburn before losing at home last season.
The match between the 39th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers and the 58th-ranked Auburn Lady Tigers will take place Sunday at noon in Auburn, Ala.
