LSU tied for the conference lead in total recipients with Alabama, which also sent a dozen members to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. It marked the third consecutive year that the Tigers placed at least 10 members on the honor roll.

LSU accounted for 25 percent of the 48 total recipients in the SEC. Earning spots on the SEC Academic Honor Roll for LSU were Colleen Barger, Beth Boudreaux, Abbey Burns, Tricia Corbello, Adrienne Couret, Marina Degteva, Kerry Descalopoulis, Kim Descalopoulis, Stephanie Hyett, Sharene Mamby, Kellye Smith and Stacey Wegener.

At the same time Burns and Wegener were also named to the First-Team GTE Academic District VI team for outstanding academic and athletic performance. Both All-Americans athletically, Burns owns a 3.79 grade point average in kinesiology, while Wegener owns a 3.78 in kinesiology.

LSU joined Baylor as the only school to place two athletes on the nine-member First Team.

Burns, Wegener and their Tiger teammates travel to Tucson, Ariz., this weekend for the NCAA Region III Championships. With a top-two finish in the team competition, these Tigers can become the first group in school history to qualify for the NCAA Championships four consecutive years.
