BATON ROUGE — The No. 9 LSU softball team will travel to Natchitoches on Wednesday to face the Northwestern State Demons in a double header beginning at 5 p.m.
“I believe that Northwestern has the best team they have ever have which includes the team that went to the Regional in Seattle two years ago,” said LSU head coach Glenn Moore. “This will be a test for us, so we must step up and play to the best of our ability.”
LSU is 25-7 for the season and 5-1 in Southeastern Conference play. NSU is 24-10 this season and 12-2 in the Southland Conference.
The Tigers and Demons have met six times, with LSU winning all six contests.
Northwestern State is Moore’s alma mater, graduating in 1993. He worked as a volunteer softball coach at NSU for two seasons before becoming the assistant coach in 1992.
In its last action, the Tigers swept a double header against No. 24 Florida on Friday. In game one, pitcher Ashley Lewis gave up only one hit and no runs, while retiring seven Gator batters at the plate, and LSU won 4-0.
In the nightcap, Florida scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead, before LSU’s Ashlee Ducote, the SEC Player of the Week, hit her second home run of the evening in the bottom of the inning to put the Tigers on top for good, 3-2. LSU went on to win, 6-3, with Ducote going 4-for-6 for the night.
LSU will continue on the road trip Friday and Saturday, traveling to Oxford to take on Ole Miss in a pair of double headers. Both the Friday and Saturday twinbills will be broadcast back to Baton Rouge on the LSU Sports Network (107.3 FM).
