Cresse Looks Forward to Senior Season

Cresse Named Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU catcher Brad Cresse was named Monday as one of Collegiate Baseball magazine’s National Players of the Week. Cresse, a senior from Seal Beach, Calif., was also named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week.

In LSU’s four games last week, Cresse batted .727 (8-for-11) with one double, three homers, eight RBI and six runs. He also walked seven times and recorded an .842 on-base percentage.

Cresse hit .750 (6-for-8) in the Tigers’ three-game SEC series victory over South Carolina last weekend with one double, two homers, four RBI and four runs. His double was the game-winning hit in LSU’s 7-6 victory over the Gamecocks last Saturday.

Cresse also increased his current hitting streak to 20 games over the weekend, and he moved into a tie with Trey McClure (1996-99) for second place on the all-time LSU home run list with 59.

On the year, Cresse is hitting .462 (48-for-104) with 11 doubles, 11 homers and 44 RBI.

Monday’s honor marks the third time in his career Cresse has earned National Player of the Week recognition, and the second time he has received SEC Player of the Week accolades.

The other players honored by Collegiate Baseball on Monday were pitcher Ben Clayton of Wake Forest and pitcher Rob Henkel of UCLA.

Eleventh-ranked LSU (18-9, 5-3 SEC) plays four games on the road this week. The Tigers face Centenary at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Shreveport, and LSU takes on Auburn this weekend in a three-game series at Plainsman Park. Games 1 and 2 of the Auburn series will be televised by College Sports Southeast, with Friday’s game starting at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday’s contest beginning at 2 p.m.

Game 3 will start at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, and it will be televised throughout Louisiana by the Guaranty Sports Network.
