Men’s Golf in 8th After Day 1 in Georgia

STATESBORO, GA. — The LSU men’s golf team stands in a tie for eight place after round one of the Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern.

Georgia leads the tournament after 18 holes, shooting a team tournament record 18 under-par 270. The University of Florida is a distant second at 6-under par 282, 12 strokes off the pace. LSU shot a first round total of 290 at 2-over par, putting them tied with Georgia Southern and TCU.

Individually, Nick Cassini and Bubba Watson of team-leader Georgia are tied for the overall lead both shooting 6-under par 66 in the first round. They are followed in second by Camilo Benedetti and Michael Morrison of Georgia, tied for second at 4-under par with identical rounds of 68.

LSU’s top individual finish belonged to two golfers. Jeremy Wilkinson and Alan Morgan are both tied in seventh position overall after both shot rounds of 70 at 2-under par.

Others contributing for the Tigers are Billy Dressler and John Humphries. After one round of play, both are tied at 56th overall after rounds of 3-over par 75. Also competing for the Tigers is Garret Prather, who struggled through a first round 84 at 12-over par, putting him in 75th place overall.

The tournament will continue tomorrow at the 6,945 yard, par-72 Forest Heights Country Club.
