BATON ROUGE — The 12th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will host the South Carolina Gamecocks Sunday at noon in the “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
“Every Southeastern Conference match is a tough one this season,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “South Carolina has a talented team, so we need to focus on going out tomorrow and playing our style of tennis. If we can do that then we should be in good shape.”
The Tigers have a 12-2 overall record this season, but both losses have come against SEC opponents. LSU owns a 3-2 conference record with losses to seventh-ranked Florida, 4-2, and 14th-ranked Tennessee, 4-3.
LSU will attempt to extend its four-match winning streak Sunday as they face South Carolina. In their previous four matches, the Tigers have outscored the opposition 25-3. LSU’s victims were 14th-ranked Texas A&M (5-2), Vanderbilt (6-1), Alabama (7-0), and Tulane (7-0).
“We have been playing some solid, smart tennis lately,” Brown said. “Different players have been performing for us in the clutch and getting the job done, and that is what we need to do to win.”
In their most recent match, the Gamecocks lost to Tennessee by the score of 4-3. The loss dropped South Carolina’s overall record to 4-6 on the season, while the Gamecocks’ are still winless against SEC opponents. South Carolina has an 0-5 conference mark this season.
The Tigers are 16-3 all-time versus South Carolina, and LSU was victorious in the last 12 matchups between the two teams. The Gamecocks haven’t defeated the Tigers since 1989.
Sunday’s match between the 12th-ranked LSU Fighting Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks will begin at noon in the “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
