Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season

BATON ROUGE- Fresh off of a pair of top 10 finishes at the NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend, the LSU men’s and women’s track and field teams head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday to open the outdoor season at the SEC Quadrangular.

Joining LSU this weekend will be Alabama, Mississippi State and Georgia.

After a heavy weekend of competition at the NCAA Indoor meet where the Lady Tigers finished fourth and the Tigers seventh, LSU head coach Pat Henry indicated he will rest a number of his top athletes.

“We had a lot of people coming off a very tough weekend of competition at the NCAA meet last week so we’ll be selective in using people,” said Henry. “We’ll use some people who competed last weekend very lightly and give a number of them the week off.”

The SEC Quadrangular is a one of three four-way meets mandated by the league office involving the conference’s 12 member institutions.

LSU returns to Baton Rouge next weekend for its home opener, welcoming in a strong field including TCU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma as part of the U.S. Collegiate Track and Field Series.
