Women’s Tennis to Take on Tide

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The LSU women’s tennis team will face it’s Southeastern Conference rival Alabama Crimson Tide Friday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Both teams look to pick up its first SEC victory of the season in the matchup. Alabama is 0-5 in conference play while the Lady Tigers are 0-4.

“Playing Alabama in Alabama is never an easy task,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “They might be the worst ranked team in the SEC right now, but they are still a very good team and they are still one of the top-50 teams in the nation.”

The Lady Tigers have a 19-6 all-time record against the Crimson Tide and are on a five-match winning streak versus Alabama. The Tide last beat the Lady Tigers in 1994 with a 6-2 victory in Tuscaloosa. Last season, LSU won handily against Alabama by defeating the Crimson Tide, 8-1, in Baton Rouge.

In the Lady Tigers’ most recent match, LSU picked up its first road win of the season against Southern Methodist. LSU defeated SMU, 8-1, in Dallas, Texas to improve to 8-5 on the season.

The Crimson Tide posted their first shutout victory of the season last week with an 8-0 win over Jacksonville State, but three days later were swept by sixth-ranked Florida, 9-0. The loss dropped Alabama’s overall record to 5-6.

“This is a very big match for us,” Minnis said. “Every SEC contest is vital and hopefully we’ll be able to go out and play the kind of high quality tennis that we’ve been playing this season.”
