Lewis Named SEC Softball Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU Tiger softball pitcher Ashley Lewis was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance at the OU/Worth Invitational in Norman, Okla. this past weekend.

“Ashley has worked hard after missing most of the fall practice due to illness,” said LSU softball pitching coach Brandi Landry. “She was determined to get back on top of her game, and the work has paid off because she is pitching at her best. Ashley has a tough attitude and is determined to win. I am proud of her and her motivation to win.”

Lewis was a key part in the Tiger’s win over No. 5 Oklahoma, pitching five innings with no score and only three hits. She struck out a total of four Sooner hitters and picked up the win to improve her record to 7-2.

Against Texas-San Antonio, Lewis pitched seven of the 11 innings played. She struck out nine batters, gave up only one hit and no runs.

For the weekend, Lewis had a 0.00 ERA in 12 innings with a total of 13 strikeouts and only four hits.

For the season, Lewis has a 1.25 ERA in a total of 50.1 innings with 43 strikeouts.

Lewis and the Tigers will start regular season play Wednesday, March 15 against Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana at 5 and 7 p.m.
