NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 8 LSU softball team fell short in game three of the OU/Worth Invitational losing to No. 12 Southern Miss, 2-1, Saturday afternoon.
“It was a good ball game that could have gone either way,” said head coach Glenn Moore. “Southern Miss just got the breaks in this game.”
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Southern Miss designated hitter Erin Johnson hit a solo home run off Tiger pitcher Britni Sneed to move the Eagles ahead 1-0.
However, LSU answered back when senior first baseman Shaunte’ Fremin hit her first home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Fremin who was 2 for 3 at the plate was responsible for two of the Tigers four hits off USM’s pitcher Courtney Blades.
It was the top of the seventh when with two outs USM’s first baseman Jennifer Ford launched another solo home run over the fence to seal the victory for her team.
As a team, USM had only two hits off Sneed, who had four strikeouts for the Tigers.
The Tigers will play again on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Texas – San Antonio and 12:30 p.m. against Colorado State.
